A private reception was held for Pulitzer Prize winning reporter, Eli Saslow, at the home of Susan Rose before his public lecture co-presented by UCSB Arts & Lectures and the Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion and Public Life, at UCSB Campbell Hall.
Saslow discussed his new book Rising Out of Hatred: The Awakening of a Former White Nationalist, the powerful story of Derek Black, who was raised to take over the white nationalist movement but whose life was transformed during his time at New College of Florida, in Sarasota.

Susan Rose served for eight years on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors and is the former executive director of the Los Angeles City Commission on the Status of Women. She is a co-founder of the Women and Leadership Program at Antioch University Santa Barbara. She writes from California about women’s rights, work and family issues and governance.
